The title probably makes you think that this is all about a sandwich. Nope. Before I get to what BLT stands for, let me first say that we picked out the name of our dog and we've decided on Oreo. He just had a day at the spa, where he got a haircut and I have to say he looks kind of funny now ;D
So, anyways... Back to BLT. BLT stands normally for Bacon Lettuce Tomato. Now, as much as I love Bacon (not so much Lettuce and Tomato), I can say that I am not talking about the sandwich. It stood for "Business Leaders of Tomorrow" today (oxymoron not intended). I got to miss school all day for this thing. My computer teacher made it so that all of us could go to this event. It only cost $5 to go (to pay for lunch) and you got a whole day of classes about success and leading. All the schools in the county had students that came.
It started out with getting a folder with all your information, including where and what you were going today. You got a name tag and a lunch ticket for later. We got a donut and our choice of hot chocolate, water, or coffee =) Then we went to the keynote speech where they talked about a whole bunch of stuff. Kind of boring there for a while... and then we got to awards for the county. The topics ranged from Typing Speed to Web Design Format to Flash Animation, and all these other computer classes. First term, I took Keyboarding II and apparently my teacher submitted my score. I took third place for the county in two topics both involving speed of typing and got too coffee mugs to keep... They're exactly the same, but that's okay ;)
Then we went to our first class. I had "Dressing for Success"... which had an employee of Nordstrom's there... She was nice and cheery and told us that we need to be ourselves... and how to dress for a job interview and to be a leader... (Mostly stuff I already know, but that's okay...) After an hour of talking about that, we went onto our next class. It was a keynote speech by a nationwide speaker named Aaron Davis...
He started the class by shaking everyone's hand and telling us to meet two people we didn't know and ask them a few questions... Well, being the not-so-social person that I am, I admit it... I chatted with someone I already knew... After that, he talked to us about who he was and he gave a funny and serious speech about how to lead and be successful... I thought his class was the best the whole day because I liked how he described everything and how he could relate to some of the stuff that went on when he was my age...
Then, we went to lunch. To my suprise (and dismay), they did not have any sandwich involving bacon... (awwwwwwwwww....) =( Instead, there were other lunch meats and bread and cheese to make our own sandwiches. Then, we had a choice of water or diet soda... Well, water was just too plain for me when I could have soda. So, I went with Diet Siera Mist.
The carbonation was overpowering and to prevent letting out a humungous burp echoing throughout the entire room, I burped through my nose for the rest of lunch... Which really hurts. It stings. It burns. I should have stopped drinking it after that, but what can I say? I was thirsty ;D
So, after I finished my sandwich and carbon-volcano soda, I had some cookies... And since there were four empty spots at the table, I had an extra... Okay. I've spent enough time on the topic of food. Now back to the main part of the day.
So, after lunch, there was another keynote speech. And Aaron Davis was speaking. I heard some of the same things, but a lot of new things. Then, we had to go to our third class. The speaker was the Astoria Golf Country Club top pro. It was less than exciting, I am sorry to say. But, as my dad pointed out, not everyone can be great at speeking in front of people.
Then, we went the end of BLT where they drew door prizes. Before that happened, when we were all sitting down, and two girls from my old elementary school came up and asked if I remembered them. I did and everyone sitting in my row urged me to go sit with them. I didn't win any door prizes, but I won two coffee mugs... Can I really complain? ;)
So, the story's dragged on really long... thanks for reading through it... Hopefully at least one person will make it through the incredibly long recap of my day.
At one point, I thought I saw Maiden. Turns out it was just someone that looks a lot like her =)
